	Griffin Tavern is simply a social gathering place for everyone. We are the owners, Jim & Debbie Donehey, residents of Flint Hill, VA. We purchased land here in February 1997 after falling in love with the atmosphere of the area and finally made it our permanent residence in March 2002. During the many years that we traveled to the area on weekends, we found it difficult to find a good burger and a cold draft beer for lunch. We are very proud that we only offer home-style cooked meals using fresh ingredients; you won't find store bought salad dressings here! We had worked for many years for Capital One and were looking for a new business to keep us occupied. Debbie had always dreamed of a restaurant, Jim envisioned a Pub like the ones he had frequented in the UK. When the owners of the beautiful building in Flint Hill known as Chappalapa, or the Bradford House, became interested in selling due to their business growth, we knew this was the opportunity we had been waiting for. The building needed some work. It dates back to the 1850's, so we came up with a plan to allow for individual dining rooms and a pub area that include TV's, darts and occasional music - the perfect combination of our two dreams. Jim collects Griffins so the name came easy. Griffins are a mythological character with the body of a lion, and the head and wings of an eagle. The Griffin is very popular for it has numerous virtues and apparently no vices. They display vigilance, courage and strength. They possess sharp vision and keen hearing. These instincts led them to know where buried treasures lay and to keep plunderers at bay.

Summer Delights

The front porch and deck are open for dining al fresco, and summer delicacies such as tomatoes, green beans and home grown red potatoes are appearing in weekend specials at Griffin Tavern. Chef Victor planted a garden in our backyard—we are almost ready to serve our very own freshly harvested tomatoes! Our Summer Menu features seasonal offerings with an emphasis on new British specialties, a “pasta of the week” and the finest local produce. Of course you can rely on Tavern classics such as Fish & Chips, Organic Angus Beef Burgers, and Griffin Wings (not for the faint of heart!). We are proud to announce that the Tavern Wings are now organic. We also are able to accommodate our guests who are gluten-intolerant with gluten-free pizza and sandwich bread options. The desserts are fantastic, as always--don’t forget to save room for a slice of Mary Frances’ homemade meringue pies, decadent cheesecake, or the classic French Vanilla Crème Brulée. Our friendly staff is anxious to serve you and make any occasion special for you, your family, friends, business or social gathering.

riffin Tavern is a casual dining restaurant with three cozy dining rooms, a “cheers” style bar where friends and strangers mix and mingle and a wonderful outdoor area for seasonal dining. We also have rooms upstairs that are perfect for private dining, small functions, and business meetings. Griffin Tavern is an internet friendly restaurant and pub with WiFi access.

Our menu features home-style cooked meals and pub favorites using fresh ingredients and local products: Fish n’ Chips, Griffin Wings, Shepherds Pie, Great Hamburgers, Seafood and Steak specials, as well as affordable appetizers, salads, and a Children’s Menu.
