Meet our Tavern Family
Debbie is the owner. She and her husband Jim purchased land in Rappahannock County in 1997 and decided the area needed a social gathering place. Neither of them had run, let alone owned, a restaurant before! The Tavern opened in May 2003 and through a lot of hard work and perseverance it has become the dream she had envisioned. You should feel as if you’re coming home and your seat at the table has been saved just for you.
In case you are wondering, the Tavern motto “We’re not here for a long time so we might as well be here for a good time” came from an Irish taxi driver on one of their trips to Ireland.E-Mail Me Here.

Rachel has been in the food service industry for over 20 years. She started with the front of the house at The Rail Stop Restaurant in The Plains VA. She also worked at The Farm at Mt. Walden Smokehouse and started hanging around Fiddler’s Green Restaurant, which had some really talented chefs working there. This is when she started to develop an interest in cooking. Eventually she moved back to Rappahannock County. She went to work for Heidi Morf & Vincent Deluise after working at Mountainside Market, a large community Health Food Place. She often says working for Chef Heidi and her team was an education.
She then worked at Four and Twenty Blackbirds, as well as The Ashby Inn and Poplar Springs Inn. Rachel helped open The Blue Rock Inn with Chef Gerard Pangaud. With all this experience she now found her home at the Tavern. She and her band of “Merry Cooks” in the kitchen are doing wonderful things!E-Mail Me Here.
Entertainment/Social Media Manager
Lorraine has been a bartender at Griffin Tavern since September 2005. She greets our customers with a smile and wants them to feel “at home” in our pub. Lorraine coordinates our live music and karaoke entertainment, as well as birthday parties, Halloween and New year’s fun and décor. Michael started working at the Tavern in August 2017. He is a CIA Graduate, 30+ years in the business, worked in NY, DC, Eastern Shore of MD, trained in classic French, American, Asian cuisine. He is anxious to show off his culinary skills for our guests..
